Opossums
removal and control services in NJ
Opossums are actually simply
called Possums, which is probably what you know them by.
Opossums are ONLY native to North America and they are
the ONLY marsupials that are native in North America.
Opossums are like the Australian native marsupial, the Kangaroo:
(females that carry their young in their pouch). Possums
are nocturnal animals that are rarely seen in the day time.
They are known for their amusing habit of playing dead when
they feel threatened.
Opossums feed on insects, grass, small mammals, fish,
and dead animals. But, most importantly they are most
beneficial than they are given credit for.
They present very little problem when in presence of the
public. They become a problem when they are trapped and
can't get out and when they invade homes, basements and
other buildings.
Remember, opossums rarely bite or attack humans unless
they are provoked and almost never become infected with
rabies. They of course because they are in the wild and
not care of animal doctors or are home pets, they carry
parasites like ticks and fleas. That is what may spread
the diseases and that is why if they come in too close
to a home or a building they must be removed.
The simple solution of the possum problem is trapping
them (they don't make it hard to catch them) and
preventing them from getting back. Opossums are like any
other wild animal; they shouldn't be trapped by a
non-professional wild life handler and or scared because
they will defend themselves.
